Elf Lip products review

It's no surprise to anyone that I love Elf products. I talk about them all the time, I order from eyeslipsface.com regularly, and I use their products on a daily basis. But, not all elf products are created equally. They have their hits and misses. Since I have quite a few of their lip products, I thought I would go over what I have, show some swatches and give you my opinions on the products. Which ones are must haves? Which ones can you skip the next time you're at target? Stay tuned!

I probably should have separated these into essential line and studio line, but I didn't, so bear with me. haha.

Elf super glossy lipshine spf15
Shades I own: Watermelon
Price: Essential line, $1
If you can only buy one type of lip gloss from the essential line, let it be this one! As far as the essential line of lip glosses go, this is by far the best. Now, I only have the one shade, so I can't speak for the entire line of super glossy lip shines, but if they are anything like this one, then they are fantastic. this lip gloss comes in a squeeze tube. It applies smooth and is not sticky. The consistency of this gloss is thicker than a lot of lip glosses, so you can definitely feel it on your lips, so if you don't like that, you won't like this gloss I, however, love it. This gloss is super pigmented and opaque! It applies thick, so it lasts a long time without being sticky, and it does not slide around on the lips. The color is a gorgeous deep pink. It's got a slight fruity smell which is not overpowering and does not linger. It doesn't have any taste that I can tell, so I am not constantly licking it off my lips. It's got the added bonus of spf which helps to protect your lips. Overall, I give this lip gloss 5 stars. It's great. I definitely plan to get more of the shades of this particular lip gloss. I am anxious to see if they are all this good.

Elf Hypershine Lip Gloss
Shades I own: Berry Cherry, Flirt
Price: Essential line, $1
These are probably the most popular of the essential line of lip glosses. Or at least, they are the ones I hear the most about. I am a fan of the packaging. It's the type where you twist the bottom, and the product comes up through the brush at the top. It makes application easy. The gloss itself, at least in the shades that I have tried, are very sheer, so if you like that, you will love these. Berry Cherry is a sheer brown-y mauve colored gloss. Not really sure why they called it berry cherry. It's not red or berry colored. lol. It's very sheer, the color is almost undetectable on the lips. Flirt is a bright pink but again, so sheer on the lips it's almost undetectable. Neither of these glosses are super shiny, so the name "hypershine lip gloss" is a bit misleading. They aren't super sticky, which is good, but also makes reapplication necessary quite often. Overall I would give the hypershine lip glosses 3 our of 5 stars. They are nice if you don't want a ton of color, and for a dollar, it really can't hurt to have a few of these in your collection for days when you want super subtle gloss on your lips!

Elf Minty Lip Gloss

Shades I own: Nashville, Miami
Price: Studio Line, $3
These are my favorite glosses from the studio line. The packaging on these is so sleek. It's a clear tube with a sleek black cap. It's a doe foot applicator which makes application a breeze. Both of these glosses that I own apply sheer, but have a great minty smell and taste. I love that about them. The mint is very appealing to me. I have heard some people say that these glosses remind them of toothpaste, but I think that the mint is quite pleasant. This gloss also leaves a cooling sensation on your lips. The shades I own are Nashville and Miami. Nashville is a nude shade. It's very sheer and shimmery on the lips. Miami is a light ink shade. Again, sheer and shimmery. The sheerness of these does not bother me because the glosses are very shiny. They aren't super sticky, just sticky enough to make them last a little longer. 5 out of 5 stars for this one!

Elf Plumping Lip Glaze
Shades I own: Oasis
Price: Essential Line, $1
I love the idea of these. It's a double sided gloss. On one side, there is a colored gloss, and the other is a clear gloss. The premise is, you apply the clear gloss first, which is supposed to plump your lips, and then you apply the colored gloss. The plumping side does not work at all. It cools and gives a slight tingling sensation, but I did not notice any plumping at all. Still, it's nice if you just want a clear gloss. The colored side in the one I own, Oasis, is a pretty coral pink. This gloss is pretty, but it's sheer and not very thick, which means I have to reapply constantly. It's not super shiny, does not have any offensive smell, and you apply is with a doe foot applicator, which I love. so there are pros and cons to this one. Still, for only a dollar, if you like the shade, you might as well pick it up. Still, I would only give this one 2 stars.

Elf Luscious Liquid Lipstick
Shades I own: Caramel Candy
Price: essential line, $1
This is called a liquid lipstick, but it's really more of a gloss. In fact, I wouldn't call it a lipstick by any stretch of the imagination. At least not the shade I own, Caramel Candy. It's a pretty sheer caramel color that applies smoothly. The packaging on this one is similar to the hypershine lip glosses, in that you turn the bottom and the product comes out through the top. But, rather than a brush, this is a sponge tip type applicator. The product comes up through many holes in the sponge tip. It applies nicely. I like this packaging a bit better than the brush type. The product is sheer and has a pleasant minty smell. No taste that I noticed. It lasts a decent length of time, if you think of it as a lip gloss rather than a lipstick. I really like it, but I think elf should consider changing the name of this product. Calling it a liquid lipstick is very misleading. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars. If they had called this a gloss, I would have given it 4.

Elf Glossy Gloss
Shades I own: Dragon Fruit
Price: Studio Line, $3
I really like this gloss. The packaging is nice. It's a short clear tube with a nice matte black cap. The applicator is a brush. The gloss itself is a nice, thicker consistency without being sticky. It lasts a long time and is more opaque than some of the other glosses from elf. The shade I own, Dragon fruit, is a gorgeous pinky coral color. The pigmentation is great. You can see the color on the lips, but it's also a little bit sheerer so you can see your lips as well. This gloss is wonderful. I love it, and I definitely want to try more of the shades. 5 out of 5 stars.

Elf Glitter Gloss
Shades I own: Ruby Raspberry Raspberry
Price: Studio Line, $3
Holy glitter bomb batman! They weren't kidding when they named this lip gloss glitter gloss. This lip gloss is positively packed with glitter. They weren't lying. The packaging on this gloss is exactly the same as the glossy gloss. a Sort clear tube with a matte black cap, and a brush applicator. I love the color of this lip gloss. It's a bright raspberry color. But, I don't like the gloss itself. The glitter is very chunky and you can feel it on your lips. Also, as the gloss fades, the glitter stays on your lips and it looks a little crazy. I did not purchase this lip gloss, it arrived as part of a promotion, so it was free. I wouldn't recommend these glosses if you aren't a fan of chunky glitter, which I, obviously, am not. at least not on my lips. 1 out of 5 stars. If you are a huge fan of glitter, you might love these. They just aren't for me.

Elf 2 in 1 conditioning lip gloss
Shades I own: Plum, Golden
Price: ??, $1 (I found these at the dollar tree. I don't think elf actually sells these anymore. Check your dollar stores and you might get lucky, like I did!)
I stumbled across these babies at my local dollar tree. I love them. I don't think elf actually makes and sells these anymore. I haven't seen them on their website. But, if you run across these, get them because they are amazing. The packaging is a squeeze tube. The product comes up through a sponge tip applicator. These are super moisturizing and super beautiful. The shades I own, Plum and golden are both equally pretty. They are pigmented, so you can see the color on the lips, but they are also sheer. I plan on getting more of these if I ever find them in my local dollar store again because they are superb. They have some shimmer that makes the lips look so pretty, and they have a nice shine, without being sticky. 5 out of 5 stars!

Elf Conditioning lip balm spf 15
Shades I own: Mellow Melon
Price: Studio Line, $3
I really like this product. It comes in a pot form, so you have to dip your finger in it to apply it. I am not a big fan of that type of packaging. It's not convenient when you are out and about. Also, the packaging on this is pretty bulky. They probably could have made the pot quite a bit smaller, because there is a lot of plastic surrounding the product. Still, the color of this is a pretty melon color. It applies smooth, not greasy, and lasts for quite a while. It has spf which is always a huge bonus. This product does not slide around on the lips. The consistency is a bit drier than one would expect from a lip balm, but overall I like it. I will try more shades in the future! 4 out of 5 stars!

Elf Lipstick
Shades I own: Classy, Voodoo
Price: Essential line, $1
I love love love these lipsticks. They are only a dollar which is such an amazing price for the amount of product you get. These lipsticks are soft, without being too soft, and they apply beautifully. The shades I own are classy and voodoo. Classy is a nice light pink that goes great with my skin tone. Voodoo is a very build-able red shade. It goes on pretty sheer but as you layer it on gets more and more opaque. I adore both of these lipsticks. they have a nice berry scent that I love. They have a nice sheen to them. The packaging is nice, and includes a little clear window in the center so you can see the shade you are getting. And for a dollar, you really can't go wrong. I definitely plan to invest in more of these someday soon! 5 out of 5 stars.

So there you have it! I hope you found this post helpful! What are your favorite elf lip products?

Hi Shannon! No, I never had any issues with their luscious liquid lipsticks developing a smell. That's odd. I wonder if you just for an old product when you purchased it. Perhaps it was expired. I love all of Elf's lip products, and have never had any issues like what you did. Sorry to hear you had problems. Maybe you can contact the company with your complaint and they could send you a new one!
