Makeup MVPs 2013: Lips

When it comes to lip products, I really don't have that much to talk to you all about! I own upwards of 50 lipsticks, and tend to rotate between them quite often, so not too many really have a chance to become tried and true favorites. But I have amassed a few of my favorite brands and styles of lip products to share with you, so let's just go ahead and jump into it!

Elf Lip Exfoliator- It is so important to take care of your lips. Exfoliating, especially when you're wearing bold lip colors is so important! I love the Elf Lip exfoliator because it comes in a handy lipstick-like tube. You just rub it on your lips and it does an amazing job of removing dead skin cells. It's a sugar-y yummy exfoliator so it's not at all unpleasant, and it's super affordable! Can't beat that!

When it comes to lip balms, I have a couple of tried and true favorites that I always go back to!

Eos Lip Balms- I can't help myself I just love these spherical lip balms so much. The packaging is super cute, they come in a large variety of flavors, and they never get lost in my handbag. They maybe aren't the most moisturizing lip balms ever, so they're not fantastic in the winter time, at least for me, but I find myself reaching for the one in "Lemon Drop" all summer long because it's got SPF and the bright yellow sphere is just so fun!

Maybelline Baby Lips- My other fave lip balm ever! These ARE super moisturizing so they can be used all year round. The clear ones, are great for wearing underneath more drying lip products. But there's a bonus, because they also come in a ton of different tinted versions, which means you can get all the moisturization of the balm and add a bit of sheer color as well. These are so easy just to pop on your lips to complete any look without having to deal with the drying properties some lipsticks can have. My favorite is "Grape Vine" but all of the colors are amazing. I have quite the collection of these babies!

When it comes to lipsticks, I really have a few brands that I absolutely love, but honestly, there are so many amazing lipsticks available at the drug store, that I am always finding new amazing lip products!

Maybelline Color Whisper- I really like this line of lipsticks because it's moisturizing. I love moisturizing lip products, and these come in a huge variety of shades. I love the one in "Lust for Blush" because it's a nice easy to wear neutral color that goes with just about any eye look you can create.

Maybelline Vivids- These are amazingly pigmented bright in your face lipsticks that are just out of this world for the drugstore! If you are interested in really making a a statement with your lips these are where it's at. I only have a couple shades, because I find that some of them can be a little intimidating to wear on an everyday basis, but these were some of my favorite lipsticks to wear in the summer. Whenever I wanted to go super natural on the eyes and make a statement with my lips, these are the lipsticks I would reach for!

Revlon Lip Butters- I started my love affair with the Revlon lip butters last year and I am still head over heels for these guys. A huge variety of colors, moisturizing properties and a drugstore price make these some of my all time favorite lipsticks. The colors range from your run of the mill easy to wear everyday pinks to berries to reds and everywhere in between. There's something for everyone in this lipstick line!

Revlon Just bitten kissable balm stain in Honey- In this instance, rather than talking about an entire line of lip products, I am talking about a particular color. The kissable balm stain in honey is the perfect everyday easy to wear mauve color. It's long lasting being that it's a stain, but also moisturizing, not like those marker style stains that are available from just about every line. I like this one a lot!

Elf Matte Lip Color- I really like these products from Elf. I love the look of a nice matte lip occassionally, and these from Elf are great. They come in 6 different shades, which is the only downfall of these. I wish there were more! Like most matte lip products these do tend to dry the lips out more than your average lipstick, but with a balm underneath I find these really easy to wear. They aren't patchy at all, and for just 3 bucks, they can't be beat price wise!

Elf Lip Lock Pencil- I am not much of a lip pencil girl. I only own about 3 or 4, and I tend to avoid lining my lips if at all possible, just because I find it so tedious! But when I absolutely have to have a lip liner, I love this lip lock pencil because it keeps your lipstick from bleeding, but it doesn't add any color. So it's super easy to line without worrying about going out of the lip line, and it doesn't take away from the lip color I am applying. It's a handy little item!

Elf Lip Gloss Sticks- I have a TON of lip glosses that I could have mentioned here, but I chose to go with the lip gloss sticks because I find these to be incredibly versatile. They have the pigmentation of a sheer lipstick, the moisturizing properties of a balm and the glossy finish of a lip gloss. When I wear these, they tend to be the only product I put on my lips. I don't necessarily use them strictly as glosses. There is a nice variety of shades, and finishes. Some of them have glitter! They are just a really nice option for when I want a lip color that is moisturizing and glossy and easy to wear!

So that's it for my MVP lip products form 2013! Be sure to keep coming back for more! There's lots more things I want to talk about including my MVP hair products, Bath and Body Products, Nail Polishes and perfumes! If you thought this series was over you've got another thing coming! Thanks for stopping by!

[Tag] If I lost all my makeup...

I've never heard of this tag before, but someone in one of the makeup groups I am a part of on facebook posed this question, and I decided to do it here on my blog. The question is...if I lost all of my makeup what are the 10 products that I would repurchase. I am not sure what phenomenon happened that I lost all my makeup, but I have a very clear idea as to what I would repurchase immediately.

Foundation:

My favorite foundation of the moment in the covergirl outlast Stay fabulous 3-in-1 foundation. I wear the shade creamy natural. It's a very nice foundation with medium coverage and I love the finish. I think it does a nice job of covering my imperfections without being too much, or cakey. I love it!

Concealer:

I can't go without a concealer. No way! Ideally, I would have two concealers, one for undereye and one for blemishes. But, since I only have ten products I can purchase for this tag, I need to prioritize and choose a concealer that works for both. I really love the Elf Tone correcting concealer from their essential line. I know it's only a dollar, but it's a great little concealer. It blends easily and covers well. It's a great multi-tasker, and has a pleasant smell. I use the shade fair, which is just a shade lighter than my skin and it really helps brighten my under eye area. Love it!

3. Powder

As someone with dry skin, I generally don't really need to set my foundations, but I definitely need a setting powder for setting my concealer and for touching up throughout the day. My favorite powder is the NYC smoothskin pressed powder in translucent. It's a really nice finely milled powder that doesn't add any color or coverage. It's really smooth and does a fantastic job of setting, without caking up. It's one of those products that I rarely ever hear people talk about and I don't know why, because it's fantastic!

4. Blush:

Blush is one of my all time favorite makeup products. I think it makes such a difference to the face. I would need to choose a nice, neutral blush that I could wear all year 'round. So I would go with one of my favorite blushes. I love love love the blush from the Elf contouring blush and bronzer duo is St. Lucia. It's a gorgeous peachy-pink blush with some gold shimmer running through it. The shimmer is lovely, but not over the top. It's a bit powdery, but I find that the color compliments my skin so well that I don't really mind that. Plus, this has a dark brown bronzer that also has some gold shimmer running through it. It's not my favorite bronzer ever, but having that extra option, if I only have 10 makeup products is an added bonus! haha

5. Eyeshadow

If I can only purchase one eyeshadow palette, than you can bet I am going to go with one of my all time faves. The Urban Decay Naked palette is so incredibly versatile. It wouldn't even cross my mind NOT to pick it up again. It's got a great range of 12 neutral eyeshadows that are so soft and easy to blend. There are so many looks you can create with this one palette. Love it! It also comes with a little mini UD primer potion, which saves me from having to buy an eyeshadow base! Score! haha

6. Eyeliner

This is another one of those products that I would love to own at least two. I love my pencil liners but I love gel liners and liquid liners too! Gah! It's so hard to choose. But, most likely, my first liner purchase would be a pencil liner, and my favorite pencil liner is, without question, the Urban Decay 24/7 liner pencil in the color perversion. It's a super dark black! I love the Urban decay liners because they glide on easily and last forever, even in the water line! Perversion is gorgeous deep dark black. Love it!

7. Mascara

Mascara is my most used product. Even on days when I don't wear makeup, I wear mascara. There are so many amazing mascaras out on the market these days, and choosing just one would be incredibly difficult. Up until recently, I would have easily chosen Covergirl's lash blast mascara. And while I still love that one, I recently found one I like even better! At least for now it's my favorite. It's the Maybelline great lash lots of lashes mascara. It gives me a ton of length and volume, it's not too wet or too dry of a formula. The tapered brush makes it super easy to get into the inner lashes of the eye as well as the bottom lashes. It's just a fantastic mascara, and one of the most inexpensive mascaras out there at just around 5 bucks a tube!

8. Eyebrows

It is SO important to fill in your eyebrows. I never used to do it, and I don't know why, because it makes such a huge difference in the look of your face. Filling in your brows really frames the face and makes the whole look come together. I love the elf eyebrow kit in medium. It's got a tinted brow gel as well as a brow powder and it's the perfect product and the perfect color for me!

9. EOS lip balm in lemon drop

I love lip balm and can't go without it! I love the EOS lip balms, and lemon drop is my favorite because it's got SPF, which is a must have! :) It's great under my lipsticks, or on it's own. It's great protection and moisture for my lips!

10. lipstick

For lipstick, I want something neutral with a nice shine so that I don't need lip gloss (since I didn't leave room for one! haha) My favorite lipstick that meets all of those qualifications is the Rimmel London lipstick in Airy Fairy. It's a great neutral shade that goes with everything, glides on smooth and looks great on my skin tone. It's a must have for any lipstick lover, in my opinion!

So there ya have it! The ten products I would immediately repurchase if I lost all my makeup. Which products would you purchase? I would love to hear from you!!

Summertime Face of the Day

Today, I thought I would share with you my face of the day I created a nice, pretty summertime look. I also filmed a get ready with me video on this look, so if you want to see how I created this look, you can check it out here!

I filmed me applying the makeup and then sped it up for a super easy to film video. I like to do that style video when there's a lot going on in my house and it's too noisy to film a video that I talk through. So hopefully you will enjoy that. Now, let's go ahead and share the finished look!

The look that I created is a very neutral summer appropriate look. The eye make up is a little bit darker in reality that it's showing up in the photos. The lips are a really nice pinky-coral shade, and I'm wearing a nice bright matte pink blush that I feel like brings the look together. Here are the products I used.

Face Products:
Equate naturally beaming daily moisturizer spf 15 (not pictured)
Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 foundation in 820 creamy natural
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles treatment concealer in 10 Fair
Covergirl Fresh Complexion Pocket Powder foundation in 635 Medium Light
Elf Studio Blush in Pink Passion
Elf Studio Golden Bronzer (as a high light)

Eye Products:

  • Virgin- brow bone highlight
  • Sidecar- in the very center of the lid to add dimension
Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter pencil- under Virgin on my browbone
Elf 3-in-1 Mascara
Elf Eyebrow kit in medium

Lip Products:
EOS lip balm in Lemon Drop

Summertime Face of the day!

Today I thought I would share with you a look I put together a couple days ago. It's a great summer appropriate look. It's light weight coverage that you don't have to worry too much about sweating off throughout the day. The eyes are a nice dark neutral look. With just a bit of shine on the lips.

Face Products:
Olay Fresh effects BB cream in fair to light
NYC smoothskin translucent pressed powder
Elf baked bronzer in St. Lucia
Elf contouring blush and bronzer cream in St. Lucia
Elf contouring blush and bronzer in St. Lucia
Elf Studio Blush in Gotta Glow

Eye Products
Mac Paint Pot in Painterly
Elf essential jumbo eyeshadow stick in Turkish Coffee
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Buck
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Naked
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Virgin
Mica Beauty Gel eyeliner in black
Elf Studio 3-in-1 mascara

Lip Products:
EOS lip balm in lemon drop
Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust For Blush
Juice Beauty Lip Gloss in Pink

I started out by applying the Olay BB Cream. I really love it! I received in complimentary from influenster in my sun kissed vox box and it's a great lightweight product with a decent amount of coverage. I topped it with a translucent powder. I used the Elf baked bronzer to really warm up my face, and the blush I chose is a nice peachy pink with golden shimmer. I layered the powder blush on top of the cream blush for the ultimate in staying power.

For the eyes, I used Mac Painterly as a base to neutralize and veins of discoloration. I applied the jumbo eyeshadow stick from Elf all over my lid and then packed Buck on top of that. I used naked to blend buck out. and then applied virgin to my browbone as a highlight. Then I filled in my brows using the elf eyebrow kit in medium. Then I lined my eyes with the gel eyeliner as well as adding it to my water line. Then I curled my lashes and applied a couple coats of mascara.

For my lips I just applied a bit of lip balm and then the maybelline color whisper in lust for blush for a nice neutral color. I added just a bit of the juice beauty gloss in pink for a nice glossy look.
