Advent Calendar Nail Challenge Day 13: Snow

The theme for Day 13 of the challenge is snow! I really wanted to do another stamping mani and here's what I came up with! I love this snowflake manicure!!

I started out with a white base color. I used Sinful Colors "Snow me White." Then, using the bundle monster image plate number BM14, I stamped on the snow flake design in a random pattern on each nail with Sinful Colors "Endless Blue" Then when that was dry I added a Shades of the Season Glitter polish. They don't have names, but this one is a really pretty iridescent glitter that looks so beautiful with this manicure. Just like fresh sparkling white snow. Considering we got 8 inches of snow dumped on us today, this seemed like an appropriate manicure!

Be sure to check back again and see what I come up with for the rest of this challenge. :)

NOTD: Julep's Eileen taken up a notch

I love white nail polish in the summer. There's just something about it. It's just so stark and clean looking and it totally enhances your tan! I have a few different white polishes, but this time I decided on Julep's Eileen. It's from the Trina Turk collection they did back in the fall of 2012, but I received mine in my introductory box from Julep. I really do like this polish. Whites are notoriously difficult polishes to work with. But this one is not too bad. It wasn't super gloppy or too sheer. It applied opaque in two coats. The only problem I have with this polish, is that after a couple days wear it starts to get little cracks along the nail. It doesn't chip, exactly, just gets mini fractures in the polish. I don't have a camera with the ability to photograph what I am talking about, but it aint pretty! Luckily, I rarely wear a polish more than a day or two anyway, so it's not really a problem for me, but if you are looking for a nail polish with lasting power, this one might not be for you. Of course, it may just be the base or top coat I used interfering with the formula, but both times I have worn this polish I have had this issue. Anyway, for a little glitz, I added a silver glitter polish on top of the white. I used one from a set of ten polishes I got ages ago from shades of the seasons. It doesn't have a name, but it's just your basic silver glitter top coat. Nothing fancy.

I had a difficult time capturing this mani in photographs. Like I said, I don't have a great camera. Most of my mani photos are taken with my phone, which doesn't do this mani justice at all, but I thought I would share it with you anyway. Hopefully you don't mind the less than stellar photo quality!

May 2013 Polish Picks!

I know in my last blog I talked about how I was going to try to bring more non-related polish posts here, and I swear, that is the intent. If you are looking for more than just polish content, and are impatient with the slow pace of this blog (I am sorry I swear it will get better) you can always check out my youtube channel. I try to post three videos a week. Generally on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and there's a wide variety of topics covered there. You can find it here!

Now that that little disclaimer is out of the way, it's time to share with you all my polish picks for May. These are all the manis I wore in May, and there are a ton of polishes to get through, so let's just jump right into it!

The first mani that I am going to share with you all is a bright bubblegum pink polish from the wet n wild megalast line of polishes. I have raved to you guys on and on about this brand in the past, so I will spare you the details of how much I adore the brush and formula, and simply state that this pretty pink is another home run from the line. It's a nice cream formula that glides on like a dream. And for a bit of sparkle, I added a coat of a shades of the season polish. It's a pink and holographic glitter top coat that you can't really see much in the picture, but it made for a gorgeous mani! Not the easiest to remove, but with the foil method, it didn't give me much trouble!

One of my goals for the month of May was to try out some of the polishes that have been sitting on my shelf for a while that I hadn't used yet. This is one of those polishes. It's a pretty sage green with a sort of metallic shift to it, and it's Sage in the City from the Wet n Wild Fast Dry line. I don't like the fast dry polishes quite as much as the megalast polishes from wet n wild, but they are still pretty good. They do dry relatively fast, and they seem to all be named for television shows, which is fun. This sage green was very pretty, though I am not sure it really suits my skin tone. It was definitely something different than what I usually wear, and I am sure that it will get a lot of use in the future, maybe as nail art, or just an accent nail, since it's not the best color ever on me. The formula was very nice, and applied easily so that's a big plus!

I apologize for the very bad quality photo above. I took this photo immediately after polishing before I cleaned up the edges and before I even put on a top coat. I wanted you guys to be able to see how shiny this polish was all on it's own. And the color is amazing! This is Through the grapevine by wet n wild from their megalast collection. It's a gorgeous grape purple that I was instantly drawn to when I Saw it in the store. This applied beautifully, was opaque in one coat, and the color is just beautiful. One of my favorite polishes from my ever growing collection of wet n wild megalast polishes!

This brings us to mid month when I got my ipsy glam bag for May. Inside was this little beauty. This is Zoya's Blu from their spring 2013 collection. It is a gorgeous pastel baby blue. This polish applied like a dream! I had never tried zoya polishes before. Mainly because of their 8 dollar price tag! I like to keep my polish purchases to the 5 dollars or less side of things. But, Blu's formula sold me, and I may just be picking up a couple more polishes from Zoya in the near future to try! I liked this a lot!

This photo doesn't do this polish that I wore on my toes for May justice at all. I wish I had gotten a better photograph, but this is a cult favorite polish, so I am sure there's tons of swatches online if you are interested in a better look. This is China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy. It's a bright neon pinky-orange that is perfect for summer. This polish is matte, as most neons are, so you need a top coat if you are interested in that shiny look. I didn't think that was necessary on my toes, though, so I am wearing it matte and it makes me look soooo tan! It's a great bonus. I love this polish, especially for the toes, and I highly recommend it if you're in the market for a great summer pedi color!

The next color I wore on my fingernails is the sinful colors polish in timbleberry. It's a darker pink color that I really like a lot. My husband actually picked this polish out, and I did an emergency mani in the car, which is why the paint job is terrible, but the color is beautiful, the formula was great, and I have no complaints. You know how much I love sinful colors polishes if you have been reading my blog awhile, and this one is one of my faves!

Next up is a color that I think is great for summer! It's another wet n wild fast dry polish in the color 9.0.2.1. orange. It's a nice mid toned orange with a ton of cold shimmer running through it. It's not your average nail polish for sure, and I got quite a few compliments when I wore this one. I think this would be an awesome polish for the toes as well, at the beach! The formula on this was great Dried super fast and lasted for a good four days before it started to wear a bit around the tips of the nail. I was so impressed with the lasting power!

I saw a manicure on someone (and of course, I can't remember now who it was, sorry) on youtube, and it was a sort of turqoise green polish with a silver accent nail and decided to re-create it. I used the color Rise and shine from sinful colors on my main nails. Now this looks blue in the picture, and no matter what light I tried to photograph it in, it looked blue, but this polish is not blue. It's a sort of bright green with a lot of blue in it. It's a beautiful sort of st patrick's day shamrock green, if you get what I am saying. And it's a beautiful polish. It applied sort of sheer, but three coats got it opaque! And then for the accent nail I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear polish in the color celeb city. It's just a really nice metallic silver. And then to add just a hint of something extra I used a silver glitter polish from shades of the seasons on top. I LOVED the way this turned out!

My memorial day nails are next. I decided to keep that same beautiful silver accent nail, and just spice up the other nails. The blue I used pn my pointer and pinkie fingers is an Elf polish called Dark Navy, and on top of that I used 2 coats of China Glaze's mosaic madness which is just a blue and black chunky glitter polish. I really wanted sparkle for this festive mani! The red I used is WEt n Wild Megalast in I red a good book, and I used a red shades of the season glitter polish on top for that bit of bling. I liked this a lot. It looks really sloppy in the photo, but it looked much better in real life. Elf's dark navy was a mini polish from a set that I got a while back, and it was a bit thick and hard to wrk with, but the rest of the polishes applied just dandy and the overall finished look was great!

Lastly I went for some super simple nail art. I applied A Julep polish in Dendrie as my base color. It's a beautiful cream formula dove grey color. And then I used a dotting tool that I got from amazon (a set of 5 dotting tools cost me about two dollars shipped) and did some fun polka dots in the color coral reef from sally hansen xtreme wear. The grey from julep applied nicely. There were a couple bubbles, but nothing unmanageable. I have found that in general, I am not crazy about Julep polishes. Their formula is really inconsistent. Sometimes you get an amazing polish, and other times it's thick and hard to work with. This was somewhere in between. I like this one pretty well. The color is fantastic. Coral reef is a gorgeous coral color that is just beautiful and applies wonderfully. I have yet to be disappointed with a sally hansen xtreme wear polish. This was just another hit!

So that is all of my polish picks for the month of May! Hope you all enjoyed this and maybe got some ideas for polishes to add to your collection! I will be back soon with more blog posts, and in the meantime, as I said above, be sure to check out my youtube channel! I would love to have you as a subscriber! I heart you guys all!

March Polish Picks!

Hi guys! Long time no see! I feel like I have not made a blog post in ages. I guess it's because I have been focusing so much of my time and energy on my youtube channel! If you aren't subscribed to my youtube channel, you should go and check it out! There's exclusive content that you won't find here, on my blog, and I update there much more regularly! www.youtube.com/Jwhackers I think you'll like it there!

If you subscribe to my youtube channel you will see a video about my March Polish picks! This in a more in-depth version of that video. In the video I show the polishes that I chose to wear in the month of March and give a brief description. here I have more details on the polishes, why I chose to wear them as well as photos! yay!

So, the first polish that I chose to wear in the month of March is a beautiful purple shade. It's from Wet n Wild and it's their Megalast formula. The nail polish in called On a trip. It's gorgeous. It's a great cream finish, and glides on the nail effortlessly. The brushes on the megalast brand of polishes is awesome, because it's a thicker, flat brush which makes application a breeze. Just a swipe or two on each nail is all you need, and the formula on this particular color is opaque enough that you could get away with just one coat! I did two, because, well that's what I am used to! This color was not the easiest to photograph. You will see in the photos below. The color is actually somewhere between the two photos, but I did my best to show you all a decent representation of the color.

After I was done rocking the purple, I decided to go with a nice pretty baby pink! I chose another Wet n Wild polish. This time in the wild shine variety! The color I chose is called tickled pink. It's such a pretty true pink. The formula is great and this color is very opaque for such a pastel shade. To amp up the mani a bit I decided I wanted an accent nail, so while I put the girly pink on most of my nails, I did a gold accent on my ring fingers. I did a coat of Revlon's nail polish in Gold coin. It's one of my all time favorite polishes. It's a gorgeous metallic gold shade with an awesome easy to use formula. And then on top of the Gold coin I did a couple of coats of a glitter top coat from Elf in Gold Star. It's just a clear base with large pieces of Gold Glitter. I loved the way this looked together!

About 5 days later, I was rushing out the door, but I wanted to do a little something different with my nails, because the pink polish had chipped a bit. Since the gold glitter accent I had done previously was still perfect, I decided to keep it on, and just replace the pink. I chose a Sinful Colors Polish this time in the color Savage. Savage did NOT photograph true to color at all. In reality there is much more green in the polish making it a beautiful teal color. It just looks blue in the photo and does not do this polish justice at all. I love the sinful colors nail polishes! There are a huge variety of colors in the line, and they are only $1.99 and I often find them on sale for just .99! Can't go wrong with that!

Next up was my St Patrick's day manicure! Not gonna lie, I went a little crazy with this one. I must have really been feeling Gold in March, because I chose yet another gold polish. This time I wore an Avon Nailwear Pro polish in the color gleaming Gold. It's a yellow gold shade that just screamed St. Patrick's day to me. On top of that, I chose a shades of the Seasons glitter polish. It doesn't have a name, but it's a true emerald green color. And then, since apparently that wasn't enough glitter, and apparently I am in love with it, I put a coat of Elf's Gold Star on top. This was a glitter bomb of a manicure and I only wore it for two or three days. I wasn't honestly all that crazy about it, but it sure was fitting for St. Paddy's day!

After I removed the glittery manicure (There's a video on my YT channel all about how to remove glitter polish if you need some tips) I went with something completely demure and pretty. I chose a model city polish in the color orange you just peachy. Model City is an indie nail polish company that I found on etsy, and I just love the polishes. Orange you just peachy is a super muted peachy color that looks almost nude on the nails and has a ton of holographic glitter in it. It's a very unique color and I got a lot of compliments on it!
You should check out her shop, there are loads of unique and pretty polishes to choose from! www. etsy.com/shop/modelcitypolish

About the same time, I went ahead and gave myself a pedicure. I only do my toe nails about once a month. So in honor of spring and warmer weather I chose a bright pink shade for my tootsies! I went with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish in the color in fuchsia power. This polish just screamed spring for me, and I love the Xtreme Wear polishes! Sorry the picture isn't the best! I went back and touched up my nails after I saw this photo!

And lastly I Will share with you the mani I am rocking right now! It's my Easter nails! I wanted to do something in Easter colors that was a bit more fun, so I did some very basic nail art. On all of my nails except for my ring fingers I painted the Sally Hansen Hard as nails nail polish in the color no hard feelings, which is a pretty lilac purple color. Then, on my ring fingers I did a couple of coats of an Orly polish called Spark. It's a great Yellow shade. Yellow nail polish is about the worst color to apply. I have NEVER found a really good yellow, but this one is pretty decent. It took about three coats to get even and opaque, which, all things considered isn't too bad! And then, I took a wooden skewer (I don't have a dotting tool) and on the purple nails I did yellow polka dots and on the yellow nail I did purple polka dots. I loved the way it turned out and now that I figured out how to do polka dots you can be sure I will be doing them in lots of manicures in the future!

OK so that's it! Those are all the polishes I picked in the month of March! I am so ready for April and lots more spring-time manicures! I can't wait to share them with you all! What nail polishes did you rock in the month of March? Leave me a comment below and let me know! Thanks for stopping by!!

Fall Nail polish Picks!

It seems like I just did my spring nail polish picks. And here we are, heading in to fall. I originally planned to do this sort of post for each of the seasons, but I found that I wore the same polishes in summer that I did in spring so it wasn't necessary to make a separate post for Summer. Now, I am bringing you my fall nail polish picks. I pulled these polishes out of my personal nail polish collection. Though, at the end I will share with you a few polishes that are on my wish list for fall.

1. New York Color Plaza Plumberry- I currently have this on my nails and I just love it. The color is a deep wine. A sort of dark purple with red undertones. It's sort of the color of a black berry. It's the perfect vampy shade for fall in my opinion. It's dark enough that it appears black in some light, without the harshness that black nail polish has. The formula is great. It's opaque in two coats, and it only costs 99 cents!

2. New York Color Broadway Burgundy- I really love NYC nail polish. This one is a lovely burgundy color. Burgundy, maroon, raspberry. These are some of my favorite fall colors. And this polish is a dream to work with. It's opaque in one coat. It has a really nice frosty finish. I can't say enough good things about it.

3. Sinful Colors Nirvana- This is one of my favorite nail polishes of all time, not just in the fall, but all year round. It's sort of a taupe-y mushroom color that looks amazing with my skin tone. It's a cream finish, and opaque in two coats. This is another budget polish, at just $1.99

4. Sinful Colors Savage- This is not the dark polish one expects to see in a fall nail polish post. But I just love it. Savage is a teal polish that leans more blue than green, with a matte finish. It's a really pretty color. The only thing I will say about this one is you NEED a base coat because this one stained my nails badly when I used it without. Of course, you should ALWAYS use a base coat anyway, so bad me! Still, this color is to die for. you need this in your collection!

5. Shades of the Season iridescent Glitter polish- Around the holidays last year, I was in CVS with my husband when they were having one of their famous 75% off sales. I came across this set of 10 different glitter polishes for 10 dollars, and this is one of the polishes from the set. It's a gorgeous iridescent glitter top coat. I love layering on top of just about anything because the glitter is just beautiful. This is an unexpected treasure in a really cheap set. I highly suggest you don't turn up your nose to little holiday sets like these. you might just find a treasure like I did!

(NYC Plaza Plumberry, NYC Broadway Burgundy, Sinful Colors Nirvana, Sinful Colors Savage, Shades of the Season Iridescent glitter polish)

6. Elf Metal Madness- This is one of my favorite elf polishes. Unfortunately I didn't buy the full size, so it's just a mini. But I definitely have it on my to buy list in full size once this one is gone. It's a beautiful gunmetal grey with tons of sparkle in it. It's a great polish. It's a pain to apply, because it's got a thicker consistency, but it's so pretty on the nail that I overlook the application issues. Especially since this is another bargain polish. The full size runs you a whopping 2 dollars on eyeslipsface.com Plus, this polish lasts a good 10 days easily on my nails. I love it!

7. Elf Fairy dust- I just got this polish, I have it on my nails now over top of the the NYC Plaza Plumberry and it's gorgeous. It's the only flakie nail polish in my collection, and I just adore the way it looks. The smell is strong and awful, but it's worth it to get that beautiful flakie finish on my nails. I definitely intend to invest in more flakie polishes, but until then, I love this one!

8.Elf Chocolate- this is simply chocolate for your nails. The application is smooth. The color is pretty. This is another nail polish that will stain your nails terribly if you don't use a base coat. But it's a great color. Chocolate brown looks great on my skin tone, and I have a feeling I am going to be reaching for this polish quite often this fall. I love browns!

9. Elf party peach- this is another bright one, but I love orange in the fall. Of course. Fall is all about pumpkins and fall leaves. Orange is like the official color of fall along with brown, right? I especially love this one. It's bright, and beautiful, and applies like a dream. It's got teeny tiny gold shimmers in it that make it look just stunning on the nails. And this is another one that lasts forever on my nails. Elf has really amazing nail polishes.

10. China Glaze Holly-Day- This polish came out with the holiday collections last year. It's a deep pine tree green, and It's a color that I really enjoy wearing in the fall months. Of course, it's a great holiday color as well, but I like wearing it all throughout the fall and winter seasons. It's a nice color against my skin tone. It's a 2 coat polish for me, and has a great cream finish. I really need to invest in more China Glaze polishes. They are a bit more expense than the drugstore brands I tend to gravitate to, but the color selection is amazing!

(Elf Metal Madness, Elf Fairy Dust, Elf chocolate, Elf Party Peach, China Glaze Holly-Day)

11. Wet n Wild wild shine in Blue Moon- this is such a pretty deep blue. It's applies easily and is opaque in one coat. I really like this color! It's another one of those easy go to fall colors, and one I know I will find myself using quite often.

12. Wet n Wild Dast Dry Party of Five Glitters- I tend to rock glitter nail polish a lot more in the fall and winter than I do in the spring and summer. I think because it's just such a pain to\ apply nicely. And then an even bigger pain to get off. But in the fall and winter, I don't seem to mind as much. Maybe because I am indoors more, and not always rushing out to be in the sunshine. Anyway, this is a big chunky glitter top coat. It's got large chunks of silver, Red, Green, blue and turquoise glitter in a clear base. It's a pain to work with and get the glitter distributed evenly, but it makes for an awesome accent nail. I like it a lot.

13. Wet n Wild Fast Dry Gray's Anatomy- This is another one that is a pain to work with. It's not great on it's own, unless you want to pile on about 8 coats, but it's a gorgeous polish to layer on top of other polishes. Especially black. Anyway, this is a gray-purple polish with a green duo chrome. It's quite unique, and gorgeous on the nails. It's supposedly a dupe for the much more expensive Deborah Lippman's Wicked Game, which I couldn't tell you because I don't have that one. Regardless, it's a great polish to have, and worth working with to make it look good!

14. Revlon Gold Coin- I wore this polish a ton in the spring and summer, and I am going to keep right on wearing it into fall. I love this color. It's a gorgeous Gold metallic nail polish. One of my favorite nail polishes of all time. It can be opaque in one coat, but I usually do 2. It lasts a good long time. and it's gorgeous with my skin tone. I highly recommend this nail polish!

15. Revlon Scandalous- I searched long and hard to buy this nail polish last winter, and I was rewarded greatly. They originally released this as Facets of Fuchsia, and I missed out on buying it at that point, despite going to multiple stores in search of it. So when they re-released it under a new name, I had to have it. I really love this nail polish! It's a dupe for Deborah Lippman's Bad Romance. The polish is identical to that one at a fraction of the cost. It's large hexagonal purple glitter in a black jelly base. And it's absolutely beautiful, especially when layered over top of a black polish. It gives this nail polish amazing depth. I wore this for about 3 weeks straight when I first bought it, and I will be wearing it a ton more this season!

(Wet n Wild wildhine Blue Moon, Wet n wild fast Dry Party of Five Glitters, Wet n wild fast Dry Gray's anatomy, Revlon Gold Coin, Revlon Scandalous)

So that wraps up my polish picks for fall, but I do want to share with you a few of the nail polishes that are on my wish list this season.

1. OPI Brisbane Bronze- This nail polish has been out for a while, but I recently saw it on youtube user Chelsea Wears, and I fell in love with it. I MUST purchase it, and soon!

2. Nicole by OPI's Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam- I Hate the Kardashians, I hate this nail polish's name, and I hate the price point, but I need this dark teal polish in my collection!

3. Revlon Midnight affair- This is a beautiful deep dark Navy. I have dark blues in my ollection but nothing quite like this!

4. New York Color Manhattan- I love vampy colors in the fall, and this is a vampy red that I am dying to add to my collection. It's one of their quick dry polishes, and runs about 2 dollars I don't know why I haven't snapped this one up yet

5. magnetic nail polish- I don't have a specific brand or color in mind. I just really want to add some sort of magnetic polish to my collection. These look so awesome!

So that's it! Hope you all enjoyed this post! What is your favorite Fall nail polish color?
