Weigh in Wednesday: Back on track!

Starting Weight: 242
Last Week: 231.8
This Week: 230.0
 Total weight loss: 12 pounds

I was glad to see a loss from last week.  My weight is still not as low as it was this time two weeks ago, but at least I am back on track! I lost 1.8 pounds this week, which is right on point for what I want to lose. I aim to lose between a pound and a half to two pounds a week. Of course, I will take any loss with a smile. But it's nice to be within that range. I am feeling really good about things now that I am back on track. We went grocery shopping, and it's so much easier to stay on track when I have lots of healthy choices in the house!

I am hoping to stay on track over the course of the upcoming week. Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and I'm baking cookies with the kids. Plus, we're thinking of having heart shaped mini pizzas for dinner. I will probably just go ahead and make tomorrow my cheat day. But that means I have to make sure I am "good" all weekend. It's so much harder to eat healthy for me on the weekends. The weekends is when we are out and about. We eat out a lot on the weekends. It's just not as easy to eat low cal!

But we'll see how it goes. Hopefully well, and I can see a loss next week, too! Are you on a weight loss journey? How are you doing? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Weigh in Wednesday: The week that wasn't

Starting Weight: 242
Last Week: 229.7
This Week: 231.8
+2.1 pounds

So, as you can see, I gained 2 pounds this week. I can't say I am surprised. I had a pretty tough week self control wise. It started out last Thursday with my husband's birthday. I decided to make it a cheat day and enjoy the birthday celebration. We went to Famous Daves and had some major bbq! Well, then we had so many leftovers, so we brought them home. And I couldn't let them go to waste, so I ate them. And then the weekend came and I ate a few things that I shouldn't have. And then throughout the week I really struggled to make good choices since we haven't been to the grocery store, and didn't have much in the way of supplies. So, basically everything just snowballed, and I got defeated and yesterday pretty much said screw it and binged on taco bell.

Yeah, it wasn't a good week. I didn't get healthy calories in, I didn't get my water intake in like I should. I basically gave up. So, I am not surprised at all to see my weight is up this week. In fact, I am mostly surprised that it wasn't higher!

But, that is one of the reasons why I am glad that I am documenting this journey here. Because, if I didn't have someone to answer to, I am pretty sure that this trend would continue. I would decide that it didn't matter, and the lack of self control might continue for another week. And then a month. And the next thing you know, I have gained back all the weight I lost. That's what happened when I gained back all 50 pounds I lost and then some!

But, instead, since I know someone was waiting to see my update here for weigh in Wednesday, I got on the scale, I accepted the number, and now I am moving forward so that hopefully next week I can come back here with better news. I can show a loss, and know that despite my slip ups this week, I can do this!

So to anyone who is reading this thanks for checking in and keeping me motivated. I am going to go and have breakfast, and start a week of good choices!

Weigh In Wednesday: Another one (and a half) bites the dust

Starting Weight: 242
Last Week: 231.1
Current Weight: 229.7

I lost 1.4 pounds this week. total weight loss so far is 12.3 pounds! I am so excited to see another week and another pounds and a half gone. Every week I get closer to my goal. I know it's still a long way off, but I know I will get there.

I don't really have much else to say this week. Still just doing what I have been doing. It's been pretty good. I still have issues with keeping things in control on the weekends, but I have decided that this is just how my life is, and I work with it. If I eat a little more on the weekends, or splurge a little, I make allowances for it! Tomorrow, for example, is my husband's birthday. We most likely will go out to diner to celebrate. I will allow myself to eat what I want without worrying too much about the calorie count or how it will effect my weight. Because that's life. This is a lifestyle change, not some crash diet. I think that's a healthy attitude to have about this, I think.

Are any of you out there striving for weight loss? How is it going? I am interested in hearing your story! Leave me a comment down below and let me know! Let's support each other in this journey!

Weigh in Wednesday and what I eat in a day!

Good morning, everyone! It's Wednesday, which means it was time to step on the scale and see if my hard work and dedication paid off this week. It did! I was VERY excited to step on the scale and see a nice loss.

Starting weight: 242
Last Week: 233.8
Current Weight: 231.1

So, as you can see, I lost 2.7 pounds this week! And I've lost a grand total of 10.9 pounds! I've lost 10 pounds! Yay! So exciting! Obviously I still have a long way to go before I get to where I want to be, but The first 10 pounds is gone, and the rest will come off with time!

This week I did really good. I feel like I was in pretty good control of what I was eating. The weekends are always harder than the weekdays, but I went to a party over the weekend at my sister's house and managed not to overindulge too much, so yay for that!

I thought today that I would share with you all what I eat in a typical day. I aim for between 1200 and 1500 calories. My calorie count generally lands in the middle at around 1300. I don't find it too difficult to stick to this goal. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies and low calorie things, so I can get a lot out of my calories everyday.

I post a lot of photos of my meals on instagram, so I thought I would share some of those photos with you. I like a lot of variety in my meals, but I have a few meals that I eat all the time, and love!

A typical Breakfast

I tend to go either sweet or savory for breakfast. My favorite breakfast lately has been a low calorie breakfast sandwich. I usually make it with a turkey breakfast sausage patty and a lice of fat free cheese on an English muffin. Sometimes I add an egg for extra protein. It's a yummy breakfast and a great low calorie option. Another breakfast that I eat quite often is yogurt with a bit of fruit mixed in. I like vanilla or Strawberry yogurt mixed with strawberries, bananas or grapes. It's a great, light breakfast for when I am not feeling super hungry in the morning. I also always have one cup of coffee every morning. Usually just one, though sometimes I break down and have two. I don't photograph that, but it's always the same. A cup of folgers with 3 teaspoons of creamer and a splenda packet.

For lunch, I tend to go for typical lunchtime things. I will have a can of soup, or else a sandwich. If I have a sandwich I generally pair it with a piece of fruit or some crunchy veggies. Sometimes I have baked potato chips alongside my sandwich. I also love things like cottage cheese.

Dinner!

Dinner tends to be the meal where I mix it up most often. Since I am generally cooking for my whole family, and  my hubby and kids tend not to like to eat the same things over and over again. So lots of variety there. I like to make low calorie versions of some of my favorite meals. I make low calorie chicken fajitas sometimes! And every Monday we have soup and salad day. We had soup and salad and sometimes we have bread or a sandwich with it. It's nice on busy Mondays to always know what we are having, and it's a great healthy night!!

Snacktime!

Snacks are probably the most important part of my day. They keep me going between meals, and they are the time when I find it easiest to slip up. Before I started my weight loss journey, I would snack and munch pretty much all day long, and sometimes it's hard not to do that out of habit. Some of my healthy snack choices are fruit, string cheese and 100 calorie bags of popcorn. I find when I have healthy snacks in the house it's easy to make healthy choices. When the groceries start running out it's harder, but I have been doing pretty well most of the time!

Hydration is key!

I don't like to drink my calories when I can help it. Sodas and juices and lattes are full of empty calories. So most of the time I drink water. It's so good for you! And I find that I can drink it down pretty easily as long as it's iced! I am not waters biggest fan, but I am getting used to it, and even starting to enjoy it! Of course, I can't drink water all the time! I already told you about my coffee every morning, but other than that, I also LOVE green tea. I never expected that I would because I tried it in the past and wasn't a fan. But I like just plain old straight green tea. None of that green tea with other stuff mixed in. My favorite is twinnings green tea with a packet of splenda. I generally have a cup a day! Green tea is supposed to be great for you. It's supposed to help aid in digestion and be full of antioxidants. I don't know about that, but it sure is yummy!

So there ya have it. That's some of the things I eat in a typical day! I also have desert sometimes, too. I like low calorie Ice cream bars and ice cream sandwiches. I also love fruit. It's good to treat myself every once in a while, so that I don't binge and overindulge. I always count the calories in my desserts and be sure to track them. I think it's good to have something sweet every once in a while. I never feel deprived of anything even with all of my diet changes. I think that's why it has been so easy to stick to!

If you would like to see more of what I eat in a typical day, you should really follow me on Instagram. I take photos of the foods that I eat just about every day. I also post photos of other fun beauty related things, too. So go find me on there!

Weigh in Wednesday: Slowly shedding pounds and Learning Self Control

Hi guys! I hope you are all having an amazing week. It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for me to do my first official weigh in here on my blog. Now, technically, I have already done one weigh in. My very first weigh in was last Wednesday, but I decided not to begin the weigh in Wednesday until I was into my groove, and also until I knew that I wasn't simply losing water weight.

My starting weight was 242 pounds. It is my all time highest weight, and I am not proud of it, hence the reason for this lifestyle change! Last wednesday I weighed in at 236, which means in my first week, I lost 6 pounds! That's a great loss, but I know that the first week you always lose a bunch and most of it is simply water weight. Not fat loss. So while it 's nice to be able to say I lost 6 pounds, and I was thrilled with that, I knew that this week I would not have such a substantial loss.

So, I wasn't expecting big numbers when I stepped on the scale this morning, and I was actually pleasantly surprised. I weighed in this morning at 233.8 pounds. That means that I lost 2.2  pounds, putting me at a grand total of  8.2 pounds lost so far.

I am pretty happy with that. I know it's not a ton of weight by any means, but I am aiming for about a pound and a half to two pounds of weight loss a week. So this is right on target with my goals! I know from experience that while losing a ton of weight quickly feels good at the time, it generally is done in a not so healthy way. I am aiming for losing weight slowly so that I can hopefully keep it off, and I don't want to deprive myself of anything, because I know that tends to lead to bingeing, and eating way too much of something when I finally do allow myself to have it.

Speaking of bingeing, I had a pretty big problem with that this week. It's only my second week, so I am not beating myself up about it, but it's something I need to be concious of. On Sunday it was my youngest son's 5th birthday. And so I decided to make that day a diet "Cheat day." I knew ahead of time that I was not going to be strict with calories and that I would go over my self imposed limit. But, I went a little too far overboard. I started out the day with a pretty low calorie breakfast. But then we took my son out to lunch to celebrate his birthday. We went to Olgas, which has amazing food, but let me tell you, that awesome olga's bread that they put all their wraps on is super high in calories. I pretty much consumed my daily allowance of calories with that one meal. And then I had delivery pizza for dinner. And then I had cake and icecream. I think if I had practiced a bit more self control and splurged my calories on just one of those items it would have been better than going all wild and eating like I was never going to be fed again. So, I learned this week that I need to learn a bit more self control, even on "cheat days". Perhaps having a day where I have a "cheat meal" rather than just declaring a day a complete day off from healthy/low calorie eating. I will let you all know how that goes in the future.

So, as not to end this blog post on sort of a bad note, I thought I would go ahead and share with you some of the foods that I ate and really enjoyed over the past week. It might give you some ideas on things you could make and eat at home!

One of the meals that I especially enjoyed that I made this week, and it's super simple, are Tortilla pizzas. As you just saw above, I obviously love pizza, but if you order a pizza and have it delivered it's immensely high in calories! Getting it without the pepperoni and high calorie meats, and getting it thin crust style helps, but a slice of delivery pizza can still run you 300 calories (and oftentimes much, much more) and who eats just one slice of pizza? So, I decided to do a low calorie at home pizza option! All I do is take a medium sized tortilla and spray it with a little zero calorie olive oil spray. Then I put it on a baking sheet and spread it with a tablespoon of pizza sauce. I sprinkle about a quarter of a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top and then stick it in a 400 degree over for about 10 minutes. It comes out crunchy and melty and delicious. And one of these little pizzas is about 250 calories. Add a salad and you have the perfect little lunch!

Another meal that I found really great is one that I whip up in the morning for breakfast. It's my take on a mcdonalds sausage mcmuffin breakfast sandwich. I simply fry an egg. I take a fully cooked turkey sausage patty and microwave it on high for about a minute, and toast up an English muffin. Then I put it all together with a slice of fat free cheese, and I am all set for a yummy breakfast! One of these sandiwches keeps me going til lunch no problem and it's around 300 calories!

So, that's my wednesday weigh in! Thank you guys so much for coming along on this weight loss journey with me, I appreciate the support! If you want to see more of what I have been eating so you can get low calorie meal ideas you can find me on myfitnesspal. I am Jwhackers84 on there, and I accept any and all friend requests. Back on the weight loss track

I started this blog over a year ago now, and one of my very first entry was about weight loss. Before I get started, I need to make a disclaimer. I said it back then, and I will say it again, I do not think that you have to be slim or a size 2 to be beautiful. However, I am not happy about my weight, and I know that I will feel better about the way that I look if I lose some weight. Back in February of 2011, I went on a mission to lose some weight. My starting weight back then was 230 pounds, and I was not happy with the way that I felt, and the way that I looked in clothing. So I endeavored to lose weight, and over the course of 9 months I lost about 40 pounds. Well, then the holidays hit, so I gained a few pounds. And then At the beginning of 2012 I quit smoking, and gained back quite a bit of weight due to that. I pretty much maintained a weight of around 220 pounds for the most of 2012. I couldn't seem to get back on track with my weight loss. Well, then my mom passed away in October of 2012, and I gained approximately 20 pounds between stress eating, emotional baggage and then I ate my way through the holiday season.

So that brings us to now. I have now gained back all of the weight I lost and then some. I am angry at myself that all of my hard work in 2011 was basically a waste of time. On January 2nd I stepped on the scale and saw my highest weight ever. 242 pounds. I decided then and there that it was time to get back on my weight loss journey. I had done it before and I could do it again.

So I downloaded the app my fitness pal (MFP) and started counting calories again (which is how I lost the weight in the first place) I have already lost 7 pounds, bringing me to my weight now, 234.8 pounds. I haven't set a long term goal. I just want to eat within my calorie range, and take it a day at a time.

I decided to share this with you all here because I could use a support system. If you would like to follow along with me as I endeavor to get down to a healthy weight, you can follow this blog. You can also follow me on instagram (My username is Jwhackers), where I have already started posting pictures of my meals everyday. I do this because it helps keep me accountable. I know that I will feel proud of myself when I post photographs of low calorie healthy choices, and maybe a little embarrassed if I have to post a photo of some not so healthy choices. Of course, there will be days when I make better choices than others. I am not expecting myself to be perfect by any means. But, in general, the picture taking, and the logging of what I eat with MFP help me stay on track and, again, keep me accountable.

So, that's where I am with my weight loss journey. From now on, every Wednesday on this blog will be weigh in Wednesday, where I make a post telling you all my weight for the week, whether I gained, lost or stayed the same, and I tell you all how the week went. If you aren't interested in seeing these sort of posts, and are strictly here to read blog posts about makeup and beauty products, I understand, and suggest that you simply skip the weigh in Wednesday posts. I also suggest that you subscribe to my youtube channel (Jwhackers) because I will not be frequently discussing my weight loss journey on that channel, and you will strictly see the content you are here for!

Thank you for taking the time to read this very personal blog entry. I know it's not the usual content around here, and hopefully it will be well received! Leave me a comment down below and tell me how you feel about this entry, and if you are on my fitness pal, leave me your username down below and I will follor you! Thanks again, guys!

Weight Loss

I am a firm believer that you can be beautiful at any size. Curves are sexy, and I don't buy into the hype that thin is in and fat is out. I think that the way you dress your body is more important than your body shape/size. That being said, I have recently been working hard to lose weight. I know that probably sounds hypocritical. But, I started my weight loss journey back in February 2011, not because I was unhappy with the way I looked, but because of my health. when I began my journey I weighed 230 pounds, and I was unhappy a lot of the time. I couldn't run and play with my children, my blood pressure was high, I struggled to find cute clothes in my size and price range. So I began counting calories and in the last 8 months I have lost just over 40 pounds. My current weight is 187 pounds. I am feeling so good. So much healthier. My clothing options are more expansive, and I can honestly say I am the happiest I have ever been! I still want to lose a bit more weight. My ultimate goal is 160 pounds. I will still be considered overweight, but quite frankly, I want to keep my curves!

What are your thoughts on the media's definition of "beautiful"? Do you have to be stick slim to be considered beautiful by today's standards? Or do you think curves are where it's at? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!
